本書是應用民族音樂學方向的英文文集。2018年中央音樂學院組織召開了國際傳統音樂學會“應用民族音樂學研究分會第六屆國際會議”,當時有來自四十多個國家的學者參加了會議。本書是從所參加會議者的報告中選擇出的文章,另外邀請美國著名學者安東尼-西格為本書寫了序言。這些文章涉及到了世界不同國家有關非物質文化遺產保護問題,傳統音樂的教育問題,應用民族音樂學的理論與方法問題等。這些文章來自世界各國的著名民族音樂學家,具有廣泛的影響力。
